Fæstningen Königstein er en af de største bjergfæstninger i Europa og ligger midt i Elbsandsteingebirgen på det ligeså benævnte plateau over byen Königstein ved den venstre bred af Elben i Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge.
Det 9,5 hektar store klippeplateau, som ifølge keramikfund blev beboet allerede i bronzealderen omkring 1100 f.Kr., hæver sig 240 meter over Elben og vidner med over 50 bygninger, der delvis er 400 år gamle, om det militære og civile liv på fæstningen. Befæstningen er 1800 meter lang og har mure, der er op til 42 meter høje, samt stejle sandstensvægge. I centrum af anlægget findes den med 152,5 meter – næst dybeste borgbrønd i Europa efter brønden i Reichsburg Kyffhausen.
