Holzbach udspringer sydvest for Kirspenich i en højde af 279 m over havets overflade. Den flyder primært mod nordvest. Uden at passere gennem byer når åen den sydøstlige udkant af Kirspenich, hvor den uhåndterede, men med 3,5 km dog længere biflod munder ud til venstre. Efter at have passeret gennem Kirspenich munder Holzbach ud til højre i Erft ved 219 m over havets overflade.
