Bispevældet eller bispedømmet Sogorb-Castelló blev oprettet ved dekret fra den hellige kongregation for bispeanliggender i 1960, i overensstemmelse med konkordatet fra 1953, efter en justering af biskopper mellem bispedømmerne Valencia-Sogorb-Tortosa.
Mellem årene 1160 og 1168 blev den navarriske ridder Pero Ruiz d'Açagra herre over Albarrasí og ønskede at grundlægge det angiveligt gamle bispedømme i området, men pave Hadrian IV gav byens kirke til Zaragoza, en beslutning taget af Alfons den Cast, der også gav den til det nævnte sæde.
