Han var ejet af familien de Kergariou fra det 17. til det 20. århundrede. Stavemåden er også Coëtilliau i middelalderen. Benjamin Jollivet, forfatter til et værk om Côtes-d'Armor, skrev i 1859: « Coatilliau er et moderne slot, der tilhører hr. de Kergariou, en af efterkommerne af Alexandre de Kergariou, som i 1586 blev udnævnt til kaptajn-gouverneur for byen og slottet Morlaix. Denne bolig har en meget smuk park. Foran bemærker man to dybe voldgrave, hvor man tidligere satte vildsvin. »
