Denne massive udvandring blev kaldt operation Dynamo. Mere end 300.000 soldater kunne flygte fra Dunkerque med mere end 1000 skibe.
HMS Crested Eagle var et af de mange mindre heldige skibe: skibet blev bombet af et tysk fly (en Stuka) og strandede på dette sted. Mere end 300 soldater omkom i flammerne.
