Carhampton sogn strækker sig fra Bristol Kanal-kysten ind til Exmoor. Sognet har en befolkning på 865.
Jernalderens besættelse af sognet er tydelig fra resterne af Bat's Castle højborgen og tilknyttede jordarbejder. Arkæologiske udgravninger i midten af 1990'erne antydede eksistensen af tidlig kristen bosættelse og begravelse øst for landsbyen, som tidligere havde været stedet for en metalbearbejdningsbosættelse.
