Iron Acton station åbnede den 2. september 1872, med starten af tjenesterne på Midland Railway-grenen fra Yate til Thornbury. Stationen blev designet af Midland Railway-selskabets arkitekt John Holloway Sanders.
Stationen betjente Iron Acton landsby og lå sydvest for den. Den bestod af en enkelt perron og en stor træstationbygning. En godstogsgren, der betjente et jernmine i Frampton Cotterell, sluttede ved stationen. Denne lukkede i 1872, og en forkortet sektion af denne rute fungerede som kuldepot indtil lukningen den 10. juni 1963.
