Excel blev åbnet af den daværende Taoiseach Bertie Ahern den 5. maj 2001. Dets teater er opkaldt efter Simon Ryan, en bror til Tony Ryan og en langvarig promotor for amatørteater.
Tipperary Excel Ungdomsteatergruppe holder et årligt stykke, og produktioner, der turnerer i Irland, spiller regelmæssigt på Excel.
