En af de mest imponerende klippeformationer i Island kan du finde omkring 15 km øst for landsbyen Kirkjubæjarklaustur: Dverghamrar (dværgklipper).
Disse basaltstøtter, ifølge et stort antal islændinge, er beboet af dværge og alfer.
Dette ekstraordinære landskab blev dannet under istiden. I den periode var havnivauet her højere. Efter at lavaen var kølet ned, har bølgerne formet det.
Dverghamrar er et beskyttet naturmonument.
