Cirkus Maximus var i oldtiden et stort stadion i centrum af Rom. Cirkuset blev primært brugt til de populære væddeløb.
Cirkus Maximus blev bygget i dalen mellem Palatinen og Aventinen. Ifølge overleveringen afholdt Romulus Consualia-festivalen på dette sted, hvor den sabinske voldtægt fandt sted. Under denne festival organiserede Romulus hestevæddeløb, som var så fængslende, at ingen kunne tage øjnene fra dem. På denne måde kunne romerne overraske de tilstedeværende sabinere og bortføre deres døtre.
