Det handler om byens tårn fra det 14. århundrede, der er en del af transmissionssystemet. Det blev bygget af Universitas Palermitana for at forsvare bymuren i "Cassaro", og det var ikke en del af kirkens strukturer, men var adskilt og isoleret.
Tårnet for Excellence, måske det højeste i Palermo, har mistet sin defensive betydning på grund af byens urbane ekspansion. Senere blev det raffineret og mistede sit strenge udseende. Faktisk blev der brugt glasvinduer med indlæg på anden niveau.
Siden 2013 har Torre de San Nicolò været åben for offentligheden med guidede ture organiseret af kooperativet Terradamare.
