Koncerthuset blev designet af arkitekten Gendt i neo-klassisk renæssancestil. Han var ikke ny i faget, da han arbejdede sammen med Cuypers om designet af Hovedbanegården og med arkitekt Springer om Stadsschouwburg ved Leidseplein.
Koncerthuset er verdensberømt for sin perfekte akustik. Det kan rumme mere end 2000 besøgende, og scenen har plads til 120 musikere og et kor på 500 personer.
