Eibergen blev første gang omtalt skriftligt i 1188 og var indtil sammenlægningen med Borculo, Ruurlo og Neede til den nuværende kommune Berkelland den 1. januar 2005 en selvstændig kommune.
I Eibergen ligger en afdeling af den tyske forsvarsadministration i Holland. Derudover er det tysk-nederlandske telegrafbataljon Communications and Information Systems fra det 1. Tysk-Nederlandske Korps stationeret i Eibergen.
