Ved foden af statuen er det latinske budskab: "IN PRINCIPE ERAT VERBUM A VERBUM ERAT APUD DEUM, ET GOD ERAT VERBUM", som kan oversættes som: " I begyndelsen var Ordet, og Ordet var hos Gud, og Ordet var Gud ."
Under inskriptionen er hovedet af en ørn , der sprøjter vand gennem dens næb.
