Die Besonderheit dieser Landschaft liegt in der Art ihres Gesteins und den Feuchtgebieten mit Pfützen , die sie zu einem idealen Lebensraum für mehrere geschützte Vogelarten machen.
Die Vegetation des Gebiets umfasst nicht weniger als 136 verschiedene Pflanzenarten (von denen einige vom Aussterben bedroht sind).
Die Kombination aus der Geologie des Geländes und der für das Halbwüstengebiet typischen Vegetation schafft eine Naturlandschaft, die wie von einem anderen Planeten zu stammen scheint.
