Millstatt am See ist eine Marktgemeinde mit 3466 Einwohnern im Bezirk Spittal an der Drau in Kärnten. Die Geschichte der Gemeinde war über Jahrhunderte an das Stift Millstatt geknüpft, das vom ausgehenden 11. Jahrhundert an bis zu seiner Aufhebung im Jahr 1773 über große Besitzungen in der Region verfügte und deren Entwicklung maßgeblich prägte. Im letzten Drittel des 19. Jahrhunderts wandelte sich Millstatt innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte zu einem ausgeprägten Fremdenverkehrsort, der Sommertourismus ist bis heute der wichtigste Wirtschaftsfaktor der Gemeinde am Millstätter See.
