Sankt Gilgen ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Salzburg-Umgebung , im Salzburger Salzkammergut in Österreich. Die Gemeinde liegt im Gerichtsbezirk Thalgau, hat 3905 Einwohner und ist als Sommerfrische bekannt geworden.Sankt Gilgen befindet sich 25 Kilometer östlich von Salzburg, 15 Kilometer südöstlich von Thalgau, und 20 Kilometer westlich von Bad Ischl, und bildet einen Ostrand des Bundeslandes zu Oberösterreich hin.Das Gemeindegebiet wird geprägt durch den Wolfgangsee , den Schafberg und das Zwölferhorn .
