Cisleithanien war nach Errichtung der Doppelmonarchie im Jahre 1867 eine vor allem im Beamtentum und bei Juristen gebräuchliche inoffizielle Bezeichnung für den nördlichen und westlichen Teil Österreich-Ungarns. Diesen nannten die Deutschsprachigen der Monarchie sonst einfach Österreich; die slawischen Kronländer wollten sich indessen nicht unter diesem Begriff subsumieren lassen.
