Die Kirche Saint-Ursmer in Lobbes gilt als die älteste Kirche Walloniens.
Zumindest das Schiff und die beiden Querschiffe stammen tatsächlich aus der Karolingerzeit.
Ab dem Ende des 11. Jahrhunderts – oder laut einer neueren Studie ab dem Ende des 10. Jahrhunderts, dem Zeitraum, als ein Domherrenkapitel gegründet wurde – wurde die Kirche verändert, insbesondere durch Vergrößerung des Chors und durch Umbau der großen, halb unterirdischen Krypta, die noch immer erhalten ist.
