Der Hoogbos ist ein Wald auf einem Plateau südlich von Mheer. Der Großteil des Waldes liegt in Belgien. Auf dem letzten Stück Niederlande läuft man zwischen duftenden Fichten und alten Eichen. Am Waldrand wächst Mistel und man blickt über eine typische südlimburgische Landschaft: Wiesen mit Hecken aus Weißdorn, Obstgärten und Hügeln.
Im Wald geht man durch verschiedene Hohlwege, oft mit Dachsbauten. Man sieht auch im Wald einige seltsame Vertiefungen, sogenannte Dolinen. Dies geschieht, weil der Kalkstein im Boden unter speziellen Bedingungen aufgelöst wird und der Boden somit absackt.
