Dendermonde verdankt seinen Namen und seine Ursprünge dem Zusammenfluss von Dender und Schelde. Dies machte die Stadt nicht nur anfällig für militärische Konflikte, sondern auch für Überschwemmungen. Heute ist die Mündung weit entfernt und die Nähe zweier Flüsse ist ein Vorteil für die Stadt, den wir dankbar nutzen.
