Der Musala , gelegen im Rila-Nationalpark, ist der höchste Berg Bulgariens und der gesamten Balkanhalbinsel. Sein Gipfel wurde von Bergsteigern erstmals im 19. Jahrhundert erreicht. Auf seiner breiten Kuppe befinden sich zwei wissenschaftliche Beobachtungsstationen der Bulgarischen Akademie der Wissenschaften.
