Die Stadt Gräfenhainichen liegt jeweils ca. 20 km südwestlich von Wittenberg, südöstlich von Dessau und nordöstlich von Bitterfeld am Rande der Dübener Heide.
In der Nähe wurde im Zuge der Umgestaltung des ehemaligen Braunkohle-Tagebaus Golpa-Nord der Gremminer See geschaffen, an dessen Ufer sich das Industriedenkmal Ferropolis befindet. Am Südrand der Stadt findet sich außerdem der Gröberner See, der ebenfalls aus einem ehemaligen Tagebau entstanden ist.
