Rüsselsheim am Main ist mit rund 67.000 Einwohnern die größte Stadt des Kreises Groß-Gerau im Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt innerhalb des Rhein-Main-Gebietes, die zehntgrößte Stadt des Landes Hessen und Teil der Stadtregion Frankfurt. Sie liegt zwischen Frankfurt am Main und Mainz. Rüsselsheim ist eine von sieben Sonderstatusstädten des Landes Hessen und liegt am Unterlauf des Mains, nur wenige Kilometer vor dessen Mündung in den Rhein bei Mainz-Kostheim .
Internationale Bekanntheit erlangte Rüsselsheim durch den Automobilhersteller Opel. Der südliche Teil des Frankfurter Flughafens liegt teilweise auf dem Gebiet der Stadt Rüsselsheim.
