Vierhöfen liegt am Ostrand des Naturschutzgebietes Lüneburger Heide. Die Gemeinde gehört der Samtgemeinde Salzhausen an, die ihren Verwaltungssitz in der Gemeinde Salzhausen hat.
Der ehrenamtliche Bürgermeister Eberhard Leopold wurde am 22. November 2016 gewählt. Er trat am 25. Februar 2019 von seinem Amt zurück. Der amtierende Bürgermeister ist Mortimer Schmiedebach.
