Wildeshausen ist die Kreisstadt des niedersächsischen Landkreises Oldenburg mit 20.667 Einwohnern. Sie liegt an der Hunte inmitten des Naturparks Wildeshauser Geest.
Wildeshausen liegt an der mittleren Hunte im Bereich des Geestdurchbruchtals der Cloppenburger Geest. Es grenzt im Südwesten an den Landkreis Vechta, während das restliche Stadtgebiet an verschiedene Gemeinden des Landkreises Oldenburg grenzt. Die Stadt ist sowohl von landwirtschaftlich intensiv genutzten Flächen als auch von Wäldern umgeben. Die noch vor einem guten Jahrhundert vorherrschenden Heideflächen sind fast restlos verschwunden.
