Riesa ist eine Mittelstadt im sächsischen Landkreis Meißen. Sie liegt auf einer Fläche von 58,91 Quadratkilometern linksseitig der Elbe. Bekannt wurde die Stadt vor allem durch ihre Stahlindustrie und als Sportstadt.
Riesa liegt an einem Elbbogen und an der Einmündung der Flüsse Jahna und Döllnitz, wobei der Hafen dem Ende des Flussverlaufs der Döllnitz folgt. Straßenverläufe prägend sind die Pausitzer Delle und der Heideberg. Riesa befindet sich nördlich der Lommatzscher Pflege.
