Die westsächsische Gemeinde liegt an der Pleiße zwischen den Städten Werdau und Crimmitschau, im Westen des Erzgebirgsbeckens und im unteren Westerzgebirge. Im Gemeindegebiet werden Höhen von bis zu 330 m ü. NN erreicht. Der Südwesten der Gemeinde wird von der Talsperre Koberbach begrenzt.
Angrenzende Gemeinden sind die Stadt Crimmitschau, Langenbernsdorf und die Stadt Werdau im Landkreis Zwickau sowie die Stadt Zwickau.
