Bad Gandersheim ist eine Kurstadt im Landkreis Northeim, Land Niedersachsen . Die Stadt, deren Namensbestandteil Bad sich auf ihr Soleheilbad bezieht, liegt westlich des Harzes. Nach der Dichterin Roswitha von Gandersheim wird die Stadt auch „Roswithastadt“ genannt.
Die Stadt Bad Gandersheim liegt zwischen Leinebergland, Weserbergland und Harzvorland im Tal des Flusses Gande, in den im Stadtgebiet die Eterna mündet. Im Norden liegt der Höhenzug Heber. Das Stadtgebiet ist überwiegend bergig. Etwa zehn Kilometer östlich der Stadt beginnt der Harz, fünf Kilometer westlich liegt das Leinetal.
