Adendorf liegt etwa vier Kilometer nordöstlich vom Lüneburger Stadtkern entfernt und ist mit der Stadt weitgehend zusammengewachsen. Adendorf bildet zusammen mit den Orten Reppenstedt, Vögelsen und Bardowick sowie Deutsch Evern und Wendisch Evern das dicht besiedelte Umland von Lüneburg, das zusammen mit Lüneburg rund 108.500 Einwohner umfasst .
Adendorf liegt zwischen dem Fluss Ilmenau und dem Elbe-Seitenkanal etwa zehn Kilometer südlich der Elbe.
