Herscheid ist eine Gemeinde in Nordrhein-Westfalen und gehört zum Märkischen Kreis. Mit einer Einwohnerzahl von unter 10.000 und über 5.000 Einwohnern gehört sie dem Gemeindetyp „Kleine Kleinstadt“ an.
Herscheid liegt in der bergigen Landschaft des Sauerlandes im südöstlichen Märkischen Kreis. Südlich der Gemeinde erhebt sich die Nordhelle, mit 663 m der höchste Berg im Ebbegebirge. Dort entspringt der Ebbebach, der an der östlichen Ortsgrenze zur Oestertalsperre aufgestaut wird. Die Verse- und Fürwiggetalsperre liegen westlich von Herscheid. Auf der Gasmert , teilweise auf Herscheider Gemeindegebiet liegend, begrenzt die Stadt westlich.
