Mettingen ist eine Gemeinde in der Region Tecklenburger Land im nördlichen Teil des Bundeslandes Nordrhein-Westfalen. Der seit 1992 staatlich anerkannte Erholungsort wird wegen seiner geschichtlichen Bedeutung für das Tüötten-Wesen auch Tüöttendorf genannt.
Die Gemeinde Mettingen liegt im Norden des Tecklenburger Landes an der Landesgrenze zu Niedersachsen. Sie liegt im nordöstlichen Teil des Kreises Steinfurt im Regierungsbezirk Münster zwischen den Städten Osnabrück und Rheine. Zur niedersächsischen Stadt Osnabrück sind es rund 20 Kilometer, zur nordmünsterländischen Stadt Rheine rund 30 Kilometer. Der Mittellandkanal sowie die Mettinger Aa, ein linker Nebenfluss der Großen Aa, verlaufen im Norden des Gemeindegebiets.
