Schwalmstadt ist die nach Einwohnerzahl größte Stadt des Schwalm-Eder-Kreises in Nordhessen. Sie entstand 1970, als im Rahmen der Gebietsreform in Hessen die beiden Städte Treysa und Ziegenhain mit den umliegenden Dörfern zur Stadt Schwalmstadt zusammengefasst wurden. Schwalmstadt trägt seit dem 2. November 2017 die amtliche Zusatzbezeichnung Konfirmationsstadt, da hier 1538 die Ziegenhainer Kirchenzuchtordnung verabschiedet wurde, die bis heute die Konfirmation, ihre Inhalte und Rituale definiert.
