Bad Segeberg ist eine deutsche Kleinstadt im Bundesland Schleswig-Holstein. Sie ist Kreisstadt des Kreises Segeberg.
Der zentrale Siedlungsbereich von Bad Segeberg hat sich am südwestlichen Ufer des Großen Segeberger Sees entwickelt. Das Gemeindegebiet erstreckt sich dabei im Westen und Nordwesten bis an den hier von Osten kommenden und nach Süden einschwenkenden Flusslauf der Trave. Der Bereich wird landschaftlich zur Großlandschaft Schleswig-Holsteinisches Hügelland gezählt, der wenige Kilometer weiter westlich in den Landschaftsraum der holsteinischen Geest übergeht. Innerhalb der Gemarkung befindet sich im Norden der Ihlsee mit dem ebenso benannten angrenzenden Waldareal, die gemeinsam das Naturschutzgebiet Ihlsee und Ihlwald ergeben.
