Die Gemeinde Holzwickede wicker) liegt am östlichen Rand des Ruhrgebiets, Nordrhein-Westfalen, und ist eine kreisangehörige Gemeinde des Kreises Unna im Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg.
Das Gemeindegebiet von Holzwickede wird im Norden durch den Dortmunder Rücken an der alten Bundesstraße 1 und dem Flughafen Dortmund und im Süden von der Ruhr begrenzt. Westlich bilden das südöstliche Dortmund und Schwerte die Grenze, und im Osten von Holzwickede befinden sich Unna und die westlichen Ortsteile von Fröndenberg/Ruhr.
