Der Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis ist eine Gebietskörperschaft mit 187.229 Einwohnern im Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt in Hessen. Kreisstadt ist Bad Schwalbach, zwei Verwaltungsaußenstellen befinden sich in Rüdesheim am Rhein und Idstein. Der Landkreis entstand im Jahr 1977 aus einem Zusammenschluss von Rheingaukreis und Untertaunuskreis. Eine Besonderheit stellt dar, dass die Kreisstadt Bad Schwalbach einwohnerbezogen nur die siebtgrößte Gemeinde des Landkreises ist. Bevölkerungsreichste Stadt des Rheingau-Taunus-Kreises ist Taunusstein.
