Der Erzgebirgskreis ist seit dem 1. August 2008 ein Landkreis im sächsischen Erzgebirge. Die Kreisstadt des Erzgebirgskreises ist Annaberg-Buchholz. Er ist der einwohnerreichste Landkreis Sachsens.
Der Landkreis umfasst nahezu das gesamte sächsische West- und Mittelerzgebirge, von der Kammregion an der deutsch-tschechischen Staatsgrenze bis an den Übergang zum Erzgebirgsbecken zwischen den Städten Chemnitz und Zwickau.
