Lahnstein ist eine große kreisangehörige Stadt im Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rheinland-Pfalz. Sie liegt an der Mündung der Lahn, die fünf Kilometer südlich von Koblenz in den Rhein mündet. Die Stadtteile liegen im Rheintal und auf den Höhen der Ausläufer des Westerwaldes und des Taunus. Lahnstein ist Luftkurort mit Kurzentrum. Am 7. Juni 1969 wurde die Stadt aus den bis dahin eigenständigen Städten Niederlahnstein und Oberlahnstein gebildet. Sie ist Sitz des Amtsgerichts Lahnstein. Teile der Stadt gehören seit 2002 zum UNESCO-Welterbe Oberes Mittelrheintal.
