Neuruppin ist die Kreisstadt des Landkreises Ostprignitz-Ruppin im Norden des Landes Brandenburg. Sie ist der traditionelle Hauptort des Ruppiner Landes. Zum Gedenken an den hier geborenen Dichter Theodor Fontane trägt sie den Beinamen Fontanestadt. Neuruppin gilt bisweilen als „preußischste aller preußischen Städte.“
Neuruppin ist eine der flächengrößten Städte Deutschlands. Die Stadt Neuruppin, 60 km nordwestlich von Berlin im Landkreis Ostprignitz-Ruppin, besteht im Süden aus den am Ufer des vom Rhin durchflossenen Ruppiner See gelegenen Ortsteilen, darunter die eigentliche Kernstadt Neuruppin und Alt Ruppin. Im Norden erstreckt sie sich über die Ruppiner Schweiz bis in die übrige Wittstock-Ruppiner Heide, die teilweise als Truppenübungsplatz Wittstock militärisch genutzt wurde.
