Höxter ist eine Mittelstadt mit knapp 30.000 Einwohnern in Nordrhein-Westfalen und Kreisstadt des Kreises Höxter, der zum Regierungsbezirk Detmold gehört. Höxter ist ein Standort der Technischen Hochschule OWL.
Die Stadt liegt an der Weser im Zentrum des Weserberglands und wird zur Region Hochstift Paderborn gerechnet. Ihre historischen Ortsnamen sind Hoxer und Huxaria.
