Sie gilt als der offizielle Ursprung der Donau, weil in Donaueschingen die Quellflüsse der Donau (Brigach und Breg) zusammenfließen. Geografisch gilt die Quelle der Breg auch als Quelle der Donau. Riedsee: Das Freizeitangebot am Ufer des Riedsees verfügt über einen großen Strand, Bootsverleih, Surfschule, Campingplatz.
