Die Stadt trägt den Titel Staatlich anerkannter Luftkurort.Oberwiesenthal liegt am Kamm des Mittleren Erzgebirges im Erzgebirgskreis, an der Grenze zu Tschechien, die bis Bärenstein dem Lauf des Pöhlbaches folgt.
