Elsterwerda ist eine Kleinstadt im brandenburgischen Landkreis Elbe-Elster. Sie umfasst eine Fläche von 41 km² und befindet sich im Süden des Naturparks Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft und an der westlichen Grenze des Schradens, eines Niederungsgebietes der Schwarzen Elster.
Der Ort gehörte bis 1815 zum kursächsischen Amt Hayn und wurde nach der Teilung Sachsens gemäß den Bestimmungen des Wiener Kongresses Teil des preußischen Landkreises Liebenwerda. Nach der Kreisgebietsreform in Brandenburg kam Elsterwerda 1993 zum neugebildeten Landkreis Elbe-Elster.
