Bergkamen ist eine Mittlere kreisangehörige Stadt im Ruhrgebiet, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Verwaltungsmäßig gehört die Stadt zum Kreis Unna im Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg sowie zum Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe und zum Regionalverband Ruhr. Landesplanerisch ist Bergkamen ein Mittelzentrum in der Ballungsrandzone des Oberzentrums Dortmund.
Die am 1. Januar 1966 durch den Zusammenschluss von fünf kleineren Gemeinden entstandene neue Gemeinde Bergkamen – Overberge kam erst zwei Jahre später hinzu – war früher eine bedeutende Bergbaustadt. Heute befindet sich Bergkamen mitten im wirtschaftlichen Strukturwandel und ist bekannt für seine Vielfalt an Sport- und Freizeitangeboten und sein besonderes kulturelles Angebot.
