Die Burg Rheinfels ist die Ruine einer Spornburg auf einem Bergrücken zwischen dem linken Ufer des Rheins und dem Gründelbachtal oberhalb von St. Goar gelegen. Nach ihrem Ausbau zur Festung war sie die größte Wehranlage im Mittelrheintal zwischen Koblenz und Bingen und wurde nur noch von der Festung Ehrenbreitstein übertroffen, die im Mittelrheintal oberhalb des rechtsrheinischen, gleichnamigen Koblenzer Stadtteils liegt. Seit 2002 ist die Burg Rheinfels Teil des UNESCO-Welterbes Oberes Mittelrheintal.
