Das Sauerland ist eine ländliche und hügelige Tourismusregion in Nordrhein-Westfalen, die bei Radfahrern, Wanderern und Wintersportlern beliebt ist. Das Sauerland soll etymologisch vom Namen Suderland abstammen. Dies wurde bereits 1266 urkundlich erwähnt. Der Name bezieht sich also eigentlich auf das "südliche Land" und hat somit nichts mit "Säure" oder "Sauer" zu tun.
