Am 10. Juni 1868 wurde die Höhle von zwei Eisenbahnarbeitern entdeckt. Ihnen soll ein Hammer in einen Felsspalt gefallen sein, der sich bei der Suche nach diesem Werkzeug beziehungsweise beim Absprengen eines Felsstückes als Zugang zu einer Tropfsteinhöhle entpuppte. Für Besucher ausgebaut sind 400 von 902 Metern der Höhle.
