Die Freie Christliche Schule Ostfriesland ist mit 1290 Schülern neben dem Gymnasium Leoninum die größte allgemeinbildende Schule in freier Trägerschaft in Niedersachsen. Sie gehört als Integrierte Gesamtschule mit Primarstufe und Sekundarstufe II zu den wenigen allgemeinbildenden Schulen, die ihren Schülern einen durchgängigen Besuch von der Einschulung bis zum Abitur ermöglichen. Die FCSO bietet für die Schüler der Primarstufe eine Ganztagsbetreuung und für die Schüler der Sekundarstufe I ein freiwilliges zusätzliches Nachmittagsangebot an. Jeder Schulabschluss kann erworben werden. Schüler aus ganz Ostfriesland gehören zur Schülerschaft; der Großteil stammt jedoch aus dem Landkreis Leer.
