Die Carl Walther GmbH, mit Sitz in Ulm und Arnsberg, zählt zu den bekanntesten Herstellern von Schusswaffen. Mit dem Namen Walther und seinem Markenzeichen – der geschwungenen „Walther-Schleife“ – verbindet man heute vor allem Gewehre und Pistolen für das sportliche Schießen und Selbstladepistolen für den behördlichen Bedarf.
1886 gründete Carl Walther in Zella St. Blasii, heute Ortsteil von Zella-Mehlis, die Carl Walther-Waffenfabrik. Der Familienbetrieb fertigte zunächst Jagd- und Sportgewehre, insbesondere die im deutschen Schützenwesen weit verbreiteten „Scheibenbüchsen“. Darüber hinaus wurden zwischen den Jahren 1924 und 1974 Rechenmaschinen hergestellt.
