Die Schleuse Gelsenkirchen gehört – vom Rhein her – zur dritten der fünf Kanalstufen des Rhein-Herne-Kanals. Sie befindet sich in Gelsenkirchen kurz vor dem Stadthafen Gelsenkirchen am Kanalkilometer 23,32 und überbrückt eine Höhendifferenz vom 6,20 m.
Die heutige Schleusengruppe wurde zwischen 1980 und 1985 errichtet und besteht aus zwei Schleusen. Beide haben Nutzlängen von 190 m. Die Nordschleuse ist auf eine Nutzbreite von 12,10 m ausgelegt, bei der Südschleuse beträgt die Nutzbreite 11,94 m. Oberwasserseitig haben beide Schleusen Hubsenktore, unterwasserseitig Stemmtore. Das Öffnen des Obertores dauert 55 Sekunden, für das Öffnen des Untertores werden nur 35 Sekunden benötigt.
